What’s in a Name?

A Daily Grace Devotional

 1-2 Minute Read

“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

This passage points out two lessons from the birth of Christ. First, there is the faith of two amazing people, Joseph and Mary. They did not play small roles; they were essential parts of God’s plan. Second, there is the supernatural intervention by God. He came to our world to bring salvation.

The name, Jesus, is the result of combining two Hebrew words, “Yeshua” and “yasha.’” Together those words mean “The Lord is salvation.” From the beginning of Christianity we have proclaimed the Name of Jesus as the Name above every name. Just the name, Jesus, has power to save, heal and deliver. We all need saving and Jesus came as both God’s answer and our hope.

An angel came to Joseph and said, “Everything you knew God to be in the Old Testament, He is that now! And He is here as a Baby in a donkey’s feeding trough. But that Baby holds your future and your dreams in His tiny hands.”

What is a Grenade Launcher?

Grenade Launcher is a word picture we use to describe a ministry or person who creates and/or performs a featured grace grenade. Grace Grenades are selected as standalone items and are not a full endorsement of any other items or activities of a particular ministry or person. However, if a grace grenade is tagged with “Official Grenade Launcher” it means we recommend and are comfortable with their public offerings.
