“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful” (Colossians 3:15).
We face choices and make decisions constantly. What do we do to find God’s will for our lives? How do we know which steps to take in any given situation? The Bible doesn’t specifically tell us which job to take or where we are to live. This Scripture is a key to every decision we will make.
Paul used a meaningful word when he tells us to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts. “Rule” is the word for “umpire.” Just as an umpire tells a baseball player what is a strike and what is not or what is in play and what is a foul or who is safe and who is out the peace of Christ is our umpire. When we pray for His direction God guides us by His peace. When we have His peace about a decision we need to make we can be certain that we are “in bounds.”
We are called to peace and God wants His peace to confirm our decisions. It’s not so much about doing what is right versus what is wrong. That’s an easy one for a believer. We know “wrong” is out of bounds. But when faced with a choice between right things or neutral things we want to make the right choice. Let God’s peace be the umpire that will tell you what is best for you.
