“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
The good news is that this change is permanent and makes us more like Him. It begins with a moment of faith and it continues for a lifetime. The more time we spend with Him the more we look like Him. While we are being changed we are covered by His grace and we are protected by His righteousness.
I look a lot like my earthly father, but it didn’t happen overnight. It didn’t even happen because I tried hard to reproduce him. It happened because I got his DNA and his nature. As we grow spiritually we look more and more like Jesus because we were given a new nature at the moment we were born again. We need not be disappointed that we aren’t completely there yet. We have a new nature and it will reproduce the image of Jesus we so desire.
Paul wrote “ever-increasing glory” because that’s how the change takes place. As we know Him more and more we will look like Him until the process is complete. Focus on Him and our transformation is inevitable. When we get to heaven we will each bear the family resemblance.
