I used to think that when I said the sinner’s prayer my slate was wiped clean, but from that point on I needed to live a holy and sinless life. Failure to do so would hinder my access to God, and put in jeopardy my heaven-bound status. I first accepted Jesus and asked forgiveness at age 12, and then many times after that over the years. It was so frustrating not being able to live the sinless life I desired and thought was expected. I remember long into my adult years whispering the sinner’s prayer with the new converts just to be on the safe side. After the Pin was Pulled there was an incredible realization that the whole matter had been settled at the Cross – Forever! Wow, I enjoy such peace in knowing that for eternity I have been set free. Period.
John 19:28-30 NIV
28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
