I was a pastor who grew up in church. I love the local church and have committed my life to serving congregations that gather faithfully to worship and serve God. My problem was in dealing with my personal limitations. I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. I felt that I had to preach well, lead well and model the perfect life so the church wouldn’t suffer. I dreaded those times when I saw my weaknesses. Then I read and grasped the message of Hebrews 4:14-16. God’s throne isn’t a place of threats and condemnation. It is a throne of grace. What can we expect when we go there? We receive grace, mercy, and help. I go there often because those are the responses from God I need often when I need His grace and mercy. I can confidently advise anyone to go there, too. The Throne of Grace is a constant source of blessing.
Hebrews 4:14-16 NIV
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
