“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
We have all experienced conditional love. “I’ll love you if you perform for me,” or “I’ll love you if you love me back.” God’s love is like nothing else we’ve ever discovered. It is unstoppable. Paul listed the things that might interfere with God’s love and showed that they are powerless against God’s love for us. God’s love is unconditional.
Death cannot separate us from God’s love. When a believer leaves this life as we know it, he or she steps into the embrace of a God whose love never fails. There is no supernatural power that can stop God from loving us. Nothing in our present status can interrupt God’s love and nothing we might experience in the future can stop God from loving us.
There is nothing we can do to make God love us more and there is nothing we can do to make God love us less. Where do we go to experience this amazing love of God? After all, it’s possible to be loved and not receive it. Paul tells us. It is revealed to us in Christ Jesus our Lord. Our faith in Him makes receiving this love possible.
As the apostle John said, “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:10). God wants each of us to say confidently, “I am convinced that nothing can separate me from God’s love!”
