“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
It is amazing how many people have a completely wrong view of God. They see Him as the Cosmic Sheriff who is bent on catching us in our sins and punishing us for every failure. They don’t realize that He loves us and went to the extreme act of kindness in sending His Son to die for us so we could live.
This description of God is the true picture of who He is. He is “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.” He walks with us through the valleys of life and comforts us when we face all our troubles. He is a good God and He loves us.
How will people know what He is really like? We pass along the comfort we receive to others so that they will know who He is. He comforts us so we can comfort others. He has compassion on us so we can show compassion to others. Our experiences of God’s goodness enable us to show others that God is a loving, comforting and compassionate God. We have the joy of correcting the wrong views of God so others will find in Him what we have found.
