“One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts” (Acts 3:1-2).
One day Peter and John were going through their routine of praying at the designated time of prayer. It was something they did on a daily basis. Waiting at the Beautiful Gate was a crippled beggar who was placed there “every day.” He was over forty years old and had been crippled from birth. He was a noted fixture there.
On this particular day, Peter and John passed him as they went to the Temple to pray. Prompted by the Holy Spirit they ministered healing to the man and he “jumped to his feet and began to walk.” It was a notable miracle because the public had been so aware of his crippling condition as he sat in the same place day by day.
I heard my good friend, Scott Pippin, point out a truth that struck me as very significant. There are some routines we go through regularly. The crippled man was placed at the gate every day, but he encountered a miracle on this one day. Scott explained that It is amazing when one of our normal, routine days suddenly becomes that special “one day.”
We never know when our routine activities will become that one special day when God shows up with a miracle. We continue our routines as Peter and John were doing and God met the crippled man on that special “one day.” Keep praying even when we don’t see a spectacular result. God has planned those special days in the midst of our routine activities when a miracle takes place.
