“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free” (Ephesians 6:7-8).
We too often make the mistake of thinking that we are only working for someone else. Paul reminded us that we are serving the Lord, not just people. When what we do isn’t recognized by the person we are serving we can be certain that God notices. Our entire perspective on life is totally changed when we realize that we are serving God by everything we do.
Not only does God notice what we do but He will reward us for every good thing we do. We may not receive rewards now for our efforts but don’t be discouraged. This Scripture offers a promise—“The Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do.”
We aren’t working for the approval of others. We serve wholeheartedly because we want to hear one phrase from God when this life is over—“Well done, good and faithful servant.” That will make every sacrifice we’ve made and every effort we’ve exerted so worthwhile.
