“The tempter came to him and said, ‘If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread’ ” (Matthew 4:3).
God had just spoken from heaven and announced that Jesus was His Son. In all three of the temptations Satan began with this same weapon. He challenged what God has just said about His Son.
It’s a tactic Satan still uses against those of us who have believed in Jesus. He wants to create doubt in our minds about what God has said about us. We can believe the truth that we are what and who God says we are.
It’s the tactic Satan used against Eve in the Garden of Eden, “Has God said….?” Our security in temptation is the same as the one Jesus used. We respond with what God has said. “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1). What God says is truth. Satan is, and always has been, a liar. God’s Word forever stands against Satan’s lies and deception.
