“Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything” (2 Corinthians 6:10).
Paul’s point was that we can look at life in one of two ways. Though we face times of sorrow, we can still rejoice. Though we may have financial challenges, we can still make others rich by sharing the treasure we have found in Christ. Don’t lose heart. No matter what our circumstances may be our destinies and values are not in question. We can’t lose when we yield our lives to Christ—no matter what life brings our way.
We can’t live out this Scripture if we are ruled by external circumstances alone. There is a truth that is more real than the material world around us. It is Jesus and His presence overrides anything else that is happening to us.
A wonderful friend, Marie Cartledge, once gave a word of wisdom to me when I was struggling with a physical illness. She said, “There are facts and there is truth. Jesus is the Truth.” Whatever the facts are we don’t deny them. We simply know that the truth is Jesus and He sustains us. He is the source of our joy and peace no matter what craziness may be all around us. We can rejoice and possess everything because of who Jesus is and what He has done for us.
