“Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people” (Acts 6:8).
When the Church needed someone to oversee the distribution of food so that the Greek widows were not neglected seven men were selected. Each of the men had a Greek name and in that way, the leaders showed wisdom. The solution to the problem was found at the source of the problem. When we recognize a problem we might be the solution to it.
The general qualifications for those chosen to wait on tables were their being filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom. The specific qualifications listed for Stephen were his being full of faith, grace, and power. Altogether those were five qualities with which to be filled just to wait on tables.
The implication is that nothing in the Church is unimportant. Whatever we do we do best when we minister out of the overflow of the Holy Spirit, wisdom, faith, grace, and power. No service is so menial that we can do it without God’s help. The good news is that each of those qualities comes from God and they are ours for the asking.
