God Is Our Nightlight
When we were children many of us were afraid of the dark. Our imaginations, had us picturing horrible monsters or creatures living under our beds. A lot of the time stealing our rest. Thankfully we could get the invisible visitors to disappear with the help of a nightlight or with the comfort of a parent, and we would be able to fall asleep. While many of us eventually outgrow our fear of darkness, there’s another kind of night that can steal our courage at any age. When we get that bad text or phone call about someone we love. When someone we love is caught in addiction and is terrified to ask for help. When we go to the doctor for a simple checkup and walk out with cancer. When we find a relationship that we cherished is shattered to pieces. Or when we face a financial crisis with no clear solution in sight. This is the kind of night that takes place in the soul. Where we once had clarity, now we are filled with questions and doubts. Where we once thought we had solidity, now there sits a gap. Where we once could see the other side, we’re now left to wonder if dawn will ever come. And while there may be a multitude of things we can’t control in our night season; we cannot forget what we DO have. We have a Father to call out to at any hour, even when our voice shakes. We have access to the illumination of God’s Word. We have the comfort of His company. It doesn’t matter where you are in life, what you’ve done, where you have been! His Grace extends to us all! He is not a hands-off God. He is a God-With-Us. A God-With-You. Yes, you. And yes, even here.
