Jesus is at the Highest Place

A Daily Grace Devotional

 1-2 Minute Read

“ ‘Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,’ bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory ” (Hebrews 3:5-6)

The first century Jews had become so enamored with Moses, the Law and national identity that when Jesus came as their Messiah they didn’t recognize Him. God Himself was present, teaching in their synagogues and villages and they rejected Him. The writer of Hebrews was determined to bring a proper perspective to the ministry of Jesus.

He honors Moses, and He was right to do that. Moses was an amazing leader. He was God’s man who led Israel out of the bondage of Egypt and through the wilderness for forty years on their way to the Promised Land. When Israel was in Egypt they were a very large family. Under Moses’ leadership, Israel became a nation.

The purpose of Hebrews is to show that Jesus supersedes everything that preceded Him, including Moses. We can honor Moses but Moses served in God’s house; Jesus is over the house. Who is the house? We are. Moses was called to serve God and He did that faithfully. That’s our calling as well. We are never, though, to forget who is over His house. That is Jesus and He is over all of us. Jesus is at the highest place and it is important that those who first received this letter and we who read it now understand that.

What is a Grenade Launcher?

Grenade Launcher is a word picture we use to describe a ministry or person who creates and/or performs a featured grace grenade. Grace Grenades are selected as standalone items and are not a full endorsement of any other items or activities of a particular ministry or person. However, if a grace grenade is tagged with “Official Grenade Launcher” it means we recommend and are comfortable with their public offerings.
