“But now God has shown us a way to be made right with Him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are (Romans 3:21-22, NLT).
The most important question facing any of us is this. “How can I be right with God?” That is the one question we want to answer correctly. Many people think that righteousness is in doing the right things. They work hard at earning God’s approval. They live under the pressure of their performance. If they’re doing well they feel secure. But, when they fail (and we all do) they are devastated.
Thank God our salvation doesn’t depend on our own performance but upon Jesus’ performance. That is Paul’s point and he makes it clearly. “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ.”
Paul was writing to a church that consisted of both Jews and Gentiles. He told them that who they were doesn’t matter. What does matter is who Jesus is and our believing in what He did for us. We can confidently proclaim today that it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from—you can be right with God because of Jesus. Don’t ever forget Paul’s words: “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ.”
