“But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble’ ” (James 4:6).
James had just talked about those who contend with others for what they want. “You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God” (4:2). The answer to human conflict is God’s grace. There is grace for the human struggles we face. There is grace for the times when we face lack. In fact, the more difficult the obstacles we face, the more grace He gives. The ones who miss out on grace are the proud who think they don’t need God.
It is easy to qualify for God’s grace. He gives it to the humble. The humble are honest about their need for Him. They welcome His presence in their lives. You can’t help someone who won’t accept your help. God stands ready with all His resources to come to the aid of the humble person who says, “God I need You.” That is the key to enjoying any of God’s benefits.
We serve a God who gives more grace. We receive it when we lay aside our pride that says, “I can do this myself.” Life brings many challenges but God supplies enough grace for us to meet those challenges. If you’re like me you want more of His grace today. Thankfully, He has enough grace for all of us.
