“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
Paul spent the early years of his life thinking that He was serving the God of Israel. His awareness of God changed from Israel’s God to “My God” on the road to Damascus when He encountered Jesus personally. He learned something about God that should encourage any of us. He found that God is willing to meet all our needs.
God doesn’t meet our needs simply “from His riches.” That could be a billionaire giving us a few dollars from his wealth. “According to” means that God, who has abundant riches, meets our needs in a way that’s consistent with His vast resources.
Not to be overlooked is the phrase “in Christ Jesus.” How do we receive the abundant blessings of God? They come to us through Christ. Everything God has for us is available through Christ. Alexander Maclaren pointed out that a mountain lake does a dry valley no good if there is no way for the water to flow to it. Jesus is the channel though which all of God’s blessings flow to us.
