“His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 3:10).
It is easy to misunderstand the power of the Church. We look at ourselves and at other believers and see the shortcomings and frailty that exist. I read this verse and am amazed that God has placed His reputation with the world in the hands of the likes of us. But He has!
The world will see His “manifold wisdom” by looking at God’s Church. What struck Paul about the Church is the miracle of its makeup. We come from different cultures, diverse ethnic origins and varied backgrounds. We live in different continents and grow up in different places. Yet, God makes us one.
A garden has a variety of flowers with different colors yet offers a dazzling display of beauty. In the same way the Church is made up of different individuals with varying personalities, gifts and temperaments. Yet, in our diversity we show the world the wisdom of God who can take us as we are and make us one display of His glory. That’s what the world wants to see and that is who we are as God’s Church.
