“And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us” (1 Corinthians 2:12).
None of us can imagine the extent of the good things God has planned for us. It takes the Holy Spirit living in us for us to even begin to grasp what God has given us and the future He has planned for us.
It is even possible for us to see a blessing and not recognize it. A number of years ago a man picked up a beautiful rock from a North Carolina stream bed and used it as his cabin doorstop. Years later a geologist who was hiking in the area stopped at the cabin and noticed the doorstop, which he immediately recognized as a huge lump of gold. In fact, it proved to be one of the largest gold nuggets ever found east of the Rockies.
Treasure does us no good if we don’t see its value. When God gave us His Son, Jesus, He gave us everything we will ever need or could ever want. Just like the man who had a gold nugget and didn’t realize it, some people see Him and don’t realize His value. The Holy Spirit in us helps us understand the wonderful treasure we have received in the gift of God’s Son. The gift of Jesus Christ means everything and it is the Holy Spirit who enables us to know that.
