“But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus” (2 Corinthians 7:6).
What an amazing description of God! He comforts the downcast. Paul explained that he had good reasons for being downcast. “Harassed at every turn—conflicts on the outside, fears within” covers about every area of discomfort any of us can face.
Yet, in the face of that adversity that could cause anyone to feel despondent, God reveals Himself as the God who comforts the downcast. He shows up whenever the pressure threatens to break us and cause us fear.
Not to be missed is the truth that He uses people! When Paul said that God “comforted us by the coming of Titus” he was saying two things. First, God is the source of our comfort. The second truth is that He used Titus. How many times have all of us been refreshed because God used someone to pick us up emotionally. We thank God because we know He’s behind it. We are also grateful to those He uses because they comfort us.
