“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
Anxiety is a terrible enemy. It is the hidden cause of many heart attacks, ulcers, and various other disorders. It is fear that isn’t focused on any specific object; it is fear that is directed in every direction at once. The New Testament word translated as “anxiety” literally means “drawn in different directions.” It is that emotional pull in different directions that we experience as anxiety.
The apostle Peter gave us the cure for worry and anxiety. “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” Peter was referring to Psalm 55:22. “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” One of the great truths of the Christian faith is that God cares.
Many of the Greeks in the days of the early Church believed God was apathetic and unmoved by our circumstances. Jesus came to show us that God cares for us. He feels compassion for us. As the psalm says, “He will sustain you.” Don’t let worry wear you down and sap your energy. We can cast our anxieties on God and let Him see us through any crisis.
