“Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5:5).

The world in which we live presents many challenges. Medical issues happen unexpectedly, financial challenges may come without warning and maybe we just face difficult decisions that can’t be delayed any longer. All of that is to say that living in the world means that we often face circumstances that we can’t control.

In spite of that reality, this Scripture says that we can overcome the world. I want to know how to live in victory over my circumstances. The apostle John told us the way to overcome the world. We overcome by believing that Jesus is the Son of God. When we believe that Jesus is the Son of God we are acknowledging that Jesus is God and has ultimate authority over anything we experience.

Sadly, I have had to say to some individuals, “I just can’t help you.” Either I lacked the authority or the resources and had to acknowledge my limitations. Jesus is God and has infinite resources and no limitations. Believing in Him as God’s Son means that I have His immeasurable power and supply available to me.

There are many self-help books available in bookstores. They tell us how to lose weight, make more money and fight everything from fear to depression. Self-help can’t solve every problem we face. There is one method that always works when we’re dealing with the world and its challenges. Believe that Jesus is God’s Son. He will never fail us. We will never face any situation and hear Him say, “I just can’t help you.” He is God! That’s enough for any of us.
