- Trying to use the law to make yourself holy is like shouting instructions on how to swim to a drowning person. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the instructions, they are correct – but it doesn’t save someone in crisis. There’s nothing wrong with the law, it’s perfect – but it couldn’t save us from sin and death. Thankfully, Jesus was on lifeguard duty.
- Whenever I forget I don’t live under the grace covenant, it’s an event that invites insecurity and arrogance. Then I remember I’m secure in Christ and I had nothing to do with that.
- Next time I feel haughty or downright worthless, I’m going to ask Holy Spirit to remind me to lean not on my own understanding and in all my ways acknowledge the finished work of Jesus.
