“ ‘He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed’ ” (1 Peter 2:24).
When my father died I was extremely disappointed. He died when he was 84 years old, and though that was a good long life his father had lived to be 96. I had hoped for many more years with him. I was praying and expressed to God how I felt. I had prayed for his physical healing. God spoke to me in a clear way and said something like this. “Your father’s physical death is not the last chapter of his life. The resurrection is God’s answer to death.” While I thank God for physical healing and have both experienced it and witnessed it countless times it is still the resurrection that is God’s final answer to death.
What Jesus provided for is eternal. Our salvation that Jesus paid for with His death means our sins are forgiven forever. The healing He provided isn’t just temporary victory over death; it includes the resurrection of our bodies and final victory over death. When we get to heaven we will be free from sin and physical frailty forever. And it is all because of the Cross.
No matter how long we have been believers we never lose sight of the power of the Cross of Christ. When we trust what He did for us it lasts our entire lives and beyond that into eternity. Thank God for sending His Son to die for us and bring us eternal salvation and healing.
