“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Our Creator left us an owner’s manual. We aren’t at a loss to know what He wants from us and which decision is in our best interest. He gave us Scripture and, as Paul pointed out, it carries weight. It is “God-breathed.” It can be trusted to guide us wisely and lead to the destination God has planned for us. He wants us to be in heaven and live with Him forever.
How do we get there? The Bible tells us. Of course, there are parts of the Bible we don’t readily understand. Mark Twain once said, “Most people are bothered by those passages of Scripture which they cannot understand; but as for me, I have always noticed that the passages in Scripture which trouble me most are those which I do understand.”
I may not understand everything in the Bible but what I do understand is enough to guide me safely through life. It tells me that God loves me and explains what it means to trust His Son, Jesus, for my salvation. It answers questions that would otherwise be beyond my understanding. It is God Himself communicating with me everything I need to know and He does it in language I can grasp. When we follow its instruction we are, as Paul said, “thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
