I remember when I used to party hard, I would drunkenly tell people that the happiest time in my life was when I went to church youth group. I would say, “one day I will get back with God.” At my lowest point, I still felt God’s presence. I didn’t feel guilt, embarrassment, or shame when my focus was on Him. I only felt comfort. After the pin was pulled, I stopped settling for artificial happiness. I took my eyes off my failing performance and refocused on Jesus’ perfect performance. God is the source of my joy now, not my behavior.
