“ ‘King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do.’ ‘Then Agrippa said to Paul, ‘Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?’ ” (Acts 26:27-28).
Paul was an amazing man. Even though he was on trial for his life he was only concerned that those to whom he spoke would come to faith in Christ. His defense before Agrippa was actually a message designed to persuade Agrippa to become a Christian.
Agrippa was a great-grandson of Herod the Great and had been instructed in Jewish faith. Paul knew that Agrippa was familiar with Old Testament Scriptures and built his presentation on that fact. His intent was to convince the king that Jesus fulfilled everything the Scripture had promised. Paul used this opportunity, not to appeal for his life, but to appeal for Agrippa’s salvation.
Paul spent his life pleading with every class of people in order to persuade them to believe in Jesus. He wasn’t intimidated by the titles or position of his audiences. He didn’t fear anyone. He just preached Christ. He was a great example to all of us. A person who truly loves Jesus won’t be ashamed to proclaim Him anywhere.
Paul turned what we would have regarded as a very bad day into an opportunity to present Christ to a king. He knew what we are continuing to learn—it’s not about us, it’s about Jesus.
