In 2 Samuel chapter 6, the Levites disregarded God’s instructions to carry the ark of the covenant on their shoulders and instead put it on a cart to drag. The old testament consequence resulted in Uzzah’s being struck dead when he reached for the slipping ark. The Levites decided to rely on man-made solutions instead of God’s given instructions.
Before the pin was pulled, I would often put the cart (what the world offers) before my Lord (the provider of all). I would buy into self-help books, programs, routines, you name it. However, each attempt to become a better me always ended in incredible failure. Now I realize I had my priorities out of order. I was relying on what the world said I ought to do instead of falling in love with Grace and Truth. He leads me right where I need to be.
Matthew 6:31-34 NIV
31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
